In Jena, Louisiana, there was a large tree in a high school schoolyard which had historically been used by white students to sit in the shade during recess and breaks, and which was also was implictly off limits to blacks. A few black students asked the school administration if they could sit under that tree, too. Permission was granted and the next day after that incident, several hangman's nooses were found hanging from that tree - an obvious throwback to lynchings and an implied threat of harm. Tensions mounted, fights broke out, vandalism and a small fire occurred to the school, the tree was cut down and in one particularly violent incident, a white student was beaten unconscious by a group of six black students, who continued beating and kicking him AFTER he lost consciousness - resulting in a concussion and hospitalization. The "Jena Six' were charged as adults with second degree attempted murder for the beating. The incident brough the spotlght of the world's media to the small town. It was likened to Selma in 50s, attracted the race baiting right reverends Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, thousands of mostly young black protestors from all over the country, elicited disparaging comments from Hillary Clinton and several other prominent Democrats and almost continuous coverage and discussion across the entire spectrum of the airwaves. The original charges against the 'Jena Six' were reduced, with one sixteen year old student , who happened to be a star football player, remaining in jail, being unable to make bail.

  In Dover, Delaware, at Delaware State University, a predominantly black instituition, two students were shot. One seriously and another in the ankle. Both knew their assailant and are refusing to name him. It's thought the 'don't be a snitch' rule is in play. Police investigating the incident have repeatedly said that they have 'suspects' but refuse to name them. The nature of the student body, being from two different large towns in the State and with historical rivalries is repeatedly denied as a possible cause for the shooting, even though that rivalry in mentioned by all parties every time they speak. All of the investigative agencies, municipalities, and parties directly involved are almost all black. Police say the shooter is a student who no longer lives on campus and poses no future threat. To date, no arrests have been made, no suspects named, and no protests by any party whatsoever have occurred.

   What's wrong with this picture? First of all, those black kids beat and kicked another kid beyond consciousness, that is a crime - employing deadly force - and since they were all 16 or older - they were subject to being tried as adults. It makes no difference their motivations, antagonisms or provocations. That they were reacting to another crime, a so called 'hate crime' is of no consequence. You cannot mitigate bad behavior with more bad behavior. In fact, given the 6 to 1 odds in the beating and the rcial component of it, it too does constitute a hate crime by any defintion in any State in the Union. Secondly, if their is anyone else to blame in all of this, it is the school administration for allowing this situation to continue, the parents of all the students at the school for not alerting State or Federal authorites about the obvious civil rights issues at the school prior to this blowing up.

   And then there's Delaware. Black on black. Not a whisper of protest about the seemingly hands off policy being used to investigate the crime, Not a breath of outrage from the black community about the 'snitch code', no marches by race baiting charlatans and not even a serious look from the various media. Why haven't the shooting victims been held in contempt of court for refusing to name their assailant(s)? Why have the names of any of the parties not been made public, when that would further pressure the parties involved to reveal all the facts of this incident? Why hasn't there been a call for an outside investigation by the Federal authorities due to the one-sided racial imbalance of the local law enforcement? Why is the University not being held to account for any responsibility in providing security on its campus?

   This is exactly what the Left has been doing for decades through the Democratic party. Making blacks victims of white oppression, while gleefully ignoring black on black crime. It is all honkey's doin'. 'BLAME da MAN!' Meanwhile, murder, by young black men is the number one killer of young black men. In the case of Delaware, you can be certain that the parents of the students involved are well-placed within the black community and that THAT is also a reason for the quiet surrounding this case and why no names have been published. Those same parents failed to instill a sense of right and wrong in their children, who have grown up, instead, to embrace the code of the street and a gang banger ethic. You can be sure those parents are products of the victimhood mentality perpetuated by the Democratic party since the 60s. And now their children have become victims, in truth. Where is their protest? They will blame whites for this. It's whites have allowed the 'gun culture' to thrive and have refused to enact strict gun control. It is rich whites who refuse to pay enough taxes to hire the cops necessary to patrol the campuses of the nation and to prevent young black men from shooting other young blacks. It is whites who deceived this nation into a war, when all that money could have been better spent on black - EVERYTHING. Those parents will never accept responsibility for what black culture has become.

   But they'll gladly buy round trip tickets for their children to go down to Jena, Louisiana and march like they used to, back in the good old days.

I despise hypocrisy, and a better, more blatant example of it, has not been witnessed in a long time..Spread the word! 

Take a bite outa crime ...

YORKTOWN, IN - A man accused of snatching another man's false teeth straight from his mouth during a fight has been charged with robbery. Robert Henry Stahl, 62, was charged Thursday in Delaware Circuit Court with felony robbery and battery causing bodily injury, a misdemeanor. If convicted of robbery, he could face two to eight years in prison.

Police and prosecutors said they did not know if Stahl had retained an attorney.

Billie Townsend, 56, told police he went to a bar on July 27 to pay Stahl money he owed him, then Stahl asked him to go outside and started punching him repeatedly.

During the fight, Stahl allegedly put Townsend in a headlock and removed his false teeth. "He said, 'You ain't getting these back,'" Townsend told police.

Stahl did not attend Thursday's hearing and prosecutors did not seek a warrant for his arrest. Another hearing was scheduled for Oct. 22.

Stahl had no number in published listings for Yorktown or Muncie and he could not be reached for comment Friday. Link

Head in the Clouds - Heart on a String

NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario - For more than 40 years, visitors to this tourist town have gazed upward to a fiberglass likeness of 19th century tightrope walker Charles Blondin occupying not only his fabled wire, but his place as Niagara Falls' most famous funambulist.

This summer, tourists also have been bending their necks for a flesh-and-blood contemporary. Twice each day, Jay Cochrane has traversed a wire between two 20-story towers set 1,000 feet apart, addressing onlookers with a showman's skills honed over a 50-year career.

"Welcome to Canada!" he announces from above as his electric blue costume's sequins spark like flashbulbs in the sun.

By summer's end, Cochrane will have performed 300 "skywalks," as he calls them, a block or so from the water's edge. But he will hardly be done with Niagara Falls.

Next year, the 63-year-old performer wants to walk a tightrope from the United States into Canada over the brink of the Falls, something no one, not even "The Great Blondin," has ever done.

Cochrane even has a vision of immortality, if he's successful. He imagines a green laser beam shooting through the night sky across the Falls, forming a virtual wire atop which would walk a 3-D hologram of himself, re-creating his feat each night high above Blondin's statue. "Times and technology have changed," he notes.

But first, Cochrane must complete the more than half-mile walk, no simple feat.

  You really should go read the entire story, this guy is a true original 'character' with a whole bunch of good heart. I am getting very tired of having to post about all the ugliness in this old world. The politics, war, death, greed, scandal, betrayal, deviancy, abuse and plain human stupidity have just about wore me out. I can barely stand to watch the news anymore. I know I'm not alone in this, either. I just wonder how long it will take for things to get better or if they ever will. Then along comes a guy like Jay Cochrane and my hope for us all is renewed. "Vice President [Dick] Cheney came up to see the Republicans yesterday. You can always tell when the Republicans are getting restless, because the Vice President’s motorcade pulls into the Capitol, and Darth Vader emerges," Hillary Clinton said at a $100-a-head fundraiser at town hall near New York's Times Square, referring to Cheney's efforts shore up Republican congressional support for the Iraq war.

"I’m not invited to their meetings and I don’t know what he says or does," she said, in an informal conversation on stage with former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack and retired General Wesley Clark. "But all the brave talk about bringing our troops home, and setting deadlines, and getting out by a certain date just dissipated."

She was referring specifically to the White House's successful effort to stem Republican support for Senator Jim Webb's legislation to limit troop deployments, which failed today in the Senate by a vote of 56-44, short of the 60 it needed to pass. Link

   To paraphrase an old friend, 'Pot/Kettle/Black'. If I were forced to choose who would be the best leader in any war or time of strife, I'd go with His Cosmic Darkness - I would like to keep all my blood in my veins and not drained in the Hildebeast's pusuit of a brave new world.

Reaching for the Sky - The New Metropolis

A new study of finger-sized Australian lizards sheds light on one of the most striking yet largely unexplained patterns in nature: why is it that some groups of animals have evolved into hundreds, even thousands of species, while other groups include only a few?

The study takes a look at Australia’s most diverse group of vertebrates—more than 252 species of lizards called skinks. Researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology have found evidence that the “drying up” of Australia over the past 20 million years triggered this explosive diversification. The results were published in the September 19 online edition of the Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

Lead author Dan Rabosky, a Cornell graduate student, spent many months in the remote Australian outback, trapping skinks as they skittered from one prickly clump of grass to another. By documenting where the various skink species occur and using their DNA to define their evolutionary tree, he found that the groups with the most species are the ones that live in the driest parts of Australia. “There’s something about colonizing the desert that caused these skinks to diversify at an incredibly high rate,” says Rabosky.

An unusual finding of this study is that these skinks upend the usual pattern of species diversity found in other parts of the world. “We typically think of lush tropical rainforests as being the world’s major centers of diversity,” says coauthor Irby Lovette, director of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Fuller Evolutionary Biology Program. “With the skinks, just the opposite has happened: the rainforest skinks in Australia have much lower diversity, and a lot of the evolutionary ‘action’ in this system is taking place in the deserts.”

Over the last 20 million years, most of Australia changed from humid and tropical to bone-dry desert. “Living in the desert is stressful for animals that are adapted for wetter habitats,” says Rabosky. “But somewhere in the distant past, a few skinks developed the ability to survive in their increasingly arid world.” It is the descendents of these few early desert colonists that evolved into amazingly large numbers of skink species.

“Australian skinks are really fascinating,” Rabosky says. “Two groups in particular have gone evolutionarily crazy, each splitting into as many as 100 different species. In contrast to skinks on other continents, and even some other groups in Australia, the diversity of these particular groups has really exploded.”

Rabosky’s study included skinks with spots, skinks with stripes, skinks with four legs, or two—or none. Rabosky says there are at least 252 species of these lizards living Down Under, and probably many more that remain to be discovered.

The evolution of these skinks mirrors that of many groups of organisms—from grasses, to beetles, to humans and our relatives—in which some groups have spectacular diversity and others a paucity of species. “For me as a scientist,” says Rabosky, “one of the great things about skinks is that there are just so darn many species, making the patterns in their diversity really clear.” Link

   I love stories like this, seemingly inconsequential, but in fact, momentous in potential impact. Consider that terrestrial 'biodiversity' as a cause celebre, has focused almost entirely on the rain forests. This study seems to indicate that researchers not only couldn't see the forest for the trees, the trees, that is, the flora actually blinded them to the reality of biodiversity. Stress strengthens life.

   I don't know about you, but I've always wondered why there are so many insect species and so few mammalian, and more specifically, primates. I had always assumed it was the placement on the food chain, and to some extent that is so. But this study indicates that external stress, outside the food chain yields much more diversity. That simple fact should come as a shock to environmentalists.

   If heat stress and a reduction of available plant life for food and potable water causes the skink population to mutate out of all proportion to what is to be expected, then is it such a stretch to imagine that global warming, which will most definitely result in the desertification of millions of square miles of vegetation (at least that is their claim), might not actually be good for life on Earth in general and biodiversity specifically?

   Think about it. Those species which marginally dwell on the fringes of arable land today, when faced with progressive loss of that habitat, would mutate to meet the new demands. Thus creating even more kinds of wildebeast, morning doves, hardy grasses and all the animls capable of feeding on them.

   This HAS happened before. There are several species of rhino, elephant, hippo and of course, primates. All quite far up the food chain. Perhaps with added stress in marginal areas, we will lose some marginal species and gain far hardier new species and more of them. Is that not the ultimate goal of life itself? Can the environmental left argue against evolution, biodiversity and the creation of new species?

   Of course they can and will, but it is research like this that will provide the ammo to shoot their species-centric, biologically patronizing and totally specious arguments down. Nature knows best and we don't know much of anything. We'll be lucky to survive long enough to even begin to understand the complexities of life. And if the enviromentalists hold sway, our own population will be reduced to such a small number, that we'll never be able to grasp the maddness in the methods of Mother Nature.

The Whiner is IN

BOSTON - A judge rejected a Harvard student's request Wednesday for extra break time during her nine-hour medical licensing exam so she could pump breast milk for her infant daughter. Sophie Currier, 33, sued after the National Board of Medical Examiners turned down her request to take more than the standard 45 minutes in breaks during the exam.

She said that if she does not nurse her 4-month-old daughter, Lea, or pump breast milk every two to three hours, she risks medical complications. Norfolk Superior Court Judge Patrick Brady said Currier has other options, beyond asking the board to change its rules for her.

"The plaintiff may take the test and pass, notwithstanding what she considers to be unfavorable conditions. The plaintiff may delay the test, which is offered numerous times during the year, until she has finished her breast-feeding and the need to express milk," he said.

Currier, of Brookline, has finished a joint M.D.-Ph.D. program at Harvard University while having two babies in two years. She has been offered a residency in clinical pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital in November, but cannot accept it unless she passes the test. Her goal is a career in medical research. Currier has taken the test once already, in April when she was 8 1/2 months pregnant, but she failed by a few points.

"The judge's conclusion that there is no harm to a woman to putting her career off for a year is the basis of discrimination," Currier said. "Men do not have to put off their careers because they are feeding a child." Her lawyer, Christine Smith Collins, said she would ask the state Appeals Court to hear the case and issue a ruling before Currier takes the test again next week.

Currier has already received special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act for dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, including being granted permission to take the test over two days instead of one. In the lawsuit, she was seeking an additional 60-minute break on each day. The board cited the need to be consistent in the amount of time given to doctoral candidates and said other nursing mothers who have taken the exam have found the 45 minutes of permitted break time sufficient.

The judge said the board offered Currier several special accommodations, including a separate testing room where she could express milk during the test or during break time, and the option to leave the test center to breast-feed during break times.

Federal anti-discrimination laws do not protect nursing mothers. The Breastfeeding Promotion Act that is pending in Congress would protect women from being fired or punished for pumping milk or nursing.

"Where she's disabled, we've addressed that under federal law, but this is something that is not a disability," said the board's attorney, Joseph Savage. "This means it will be somewhat more difficult for her to take the test, but there are a lot of people who face challenges in taking the test - childcare obligations, medical conditions that make it harder - and we just can't change the test for everybody who faces a challenge."    I am so sick and tired of every little inconvenience and malady being made into a full blown disability. It is a revolting situation. The University made all kids of accomodations for this woman. Many unmentioned, She had special tutors due to her dyslexia and remedial classes for her ADHD, her classmates were paid to read her textbooks for her and to share their notes with her, her childcare was subsidized and so much more and ALL paid for by the taxpayer. What does the taxpayer get in return? Even more demands for accomodation. Ask yourself this, 'What kind of a doctor or researcher will this woman really make? She will continue to scam the system and has already learned it can be very profitable. She has literally wasted an entire education that would have been better spent on a person with enough drive to overcome their own personal obstacles. I look into this woman's eye and I see a sociopath. She's evil. She has no intentions of ever doing for mankind that which we expect physicians and scientists to do - she will use her knowledge of scamming the system until she comes across a lawsuit that will allow her to retire nicely.

   THIS is another example of unintended consequences. Those on the left will applaud her pluck and resolve and hold her up as an icon of perseverence and a soldier in the war of sexual equality. Bullshit. She was raised a whiner, always got her way, was catered to her entire life and takes for granted that will continue and has no concern about who foots the bills. She is user. She is even using her own children to further her own personal agenda - which is to let society take care of her. Holding her babies hostage to her own failings and greed. And to answer the one question which should be burning in your mind right about now ... No.

Extinction - the inevitability of irrelevance

WASHINGTON - When every known speaker of the language Amurdag gets together, there's still no one to talk to. Native Australian Charlie Mangulda is the only person alive known to speak that language, one of thousands around the world on the brink of extinction. From rural Australia to Siberia to Oklahoma, languages that embody the history and traditions of people are dying, researchers said Tuesday.

While there are an estimated 7,000 languages spoken around the world today, one of them dies out about every two weeks, according to linguistic experts struggling to save at least some of them.

Five hotspots where languages are most endangered were listed Tuesday in a briefing by the Living Tongues Institute for Endangered Languages and the National Geographic Society.

In addition to northern Australia, eastern Siberia and Oklahoma and the U.S. Southwest, many native languages are endangered in South America - Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Bolivia - as well as the area including British Columbia, and the states of Washington and Oregon.

Losing languages means losing knowledge, says K. David Harrison, an assistant professor of linguistics at Swarthmore College.

"When we lose a language, we lose centuries of human thinking about time, seasons, sea creatures, reindeer, edible flowers, mathematics, landscapes, myths, music, the unknown and the everyday."

As many as half of the current languages have never been written down, he estimated.

That means, if the last speaker of many of these vanished tomorrow, the language would be lost because there is no dictionary, no literature, no text of any kind, he said. Link

   Please follow the link to read the article in its entirety. It serves to substantiate my premise. Which is that this zeal to 'protect' and revitalize archaic languages is yet another manifestation of socialism.

   Obviously the languages in jeopardy have not become important enough in the larger context of human progress to remain relevant. Many are found in places where they are spoken by indigenous populations still stuck in the Stone Age. What unknown contributions to the modern world could they possibly hold? There must be good reasons why these tongues are dying. And after all, not a soul alive today, knows how Latin was spoken. And that language not only ruled the known world for a thousand years, it formed the basis for all the Romance languages and many offshoots. As important as it was, it died. But we still have it with us, due to it's influences. What possible influence could some obscure language spoken by a handful of isolated natives in the Amazon rain forests have on how we think, what we know and where we are going?

   A main precept of socialism is that all should be the same. Personal achievement should be crushed in favor of the larger population. This lamentation for dead or dying languages, is it any more than insisting the greater population wait until the few catch up? What actual and real purpose does the effort serve, other than to hamstring not only the progress of the larger population, but as usual, retarding the possibility of any progress that might be made by the speakers of these dead or dying languages. By 'as usual', I mean that this is typical of the Left and its methods. They create a victim and hold us all resonsible for that situation and at the same time, do everything imaginable to maintain the victim in a stasis of victimhood. For without victims, real or imaginary, there would be no justification for socialism whatsoever.

   The very best example of this is the plight of black people in America today. Are they as much better off as we should expect, based on all the efforts, all the social programs, all the rhetoric and political pandering? Certainly not, and the blame for that rests squarely at the feet of the Democrats. It is the Left which pays lip service to fixing problems all the while doing everything in their power to insure they are never quite solved. Case in point - 'midnight basketball'. Sounded good. Employed some well-meaning, if not deluded young college graduates and tied up some valuble real estate - and not a damned thing more.  Or take the old 'Model Cities' programs of the 60s and 70s. The schpiel was to renovate the inner cities and use the residents thereof to do the work. The reality was the gentrification of the inner cities, the mass exodus of the poor from the inner cities due to skyrocketing land values and prices and the chasing of crime and all the social ills attendant with ghetto living - out into to the suburbs. Where it resides still.

   The very best thing that could happen to these obscure populations of which these researchers are so concerned would be to teach them English and bring them into the 21st century. Chinese, Russian and Japanese students all MUST learn English. But then the Left in general and these researchers specifically would be forced to acknowledge that English, and the predominantly non-black, non-asian, non-indian, non-native, non-poor and oppressed population which speaks it and the pathways to progress and growth chosen by same, is desirable. Perish that thought!

   Therein lies the crux of my point. The Left cannot admit such a thing, for to do so would be to admit they, themselves are irrelevant and doomed to extinction. Oh, that it would happen sooner.
