Al Sharpton-Thurmond?
Al Sharpton and Strom Thurmond possibly related? There goes the Universe.
Recently, a group that specializes in geneaology working under the auspices of Ancestry.com, determined that the 'Reverend' Al Sharpton's greatgrandfather was a slave owned by the great-greatgrandfather of the late Senator Strom Thurmond. When confronted with the news, the "Reverend' Al expressed great-greatshock. And then he slept on it. Today, citing the common practice of slave owners having sex with their slaves - he wants a DNA test to determine if he is ACTUALLY RELATED BY BLOOD to the dead segregationist from South Carolina. The horror of THAT thought aside, Ellen Senter, one of Strom Thurmond's nieces said ... "I doubt you can find many native South Carolinians today whose family, if you traced them back far enough, didn't own slaves," ... and she went on to add ... "And it is wonderful that (Sharpton) was able to become what he is in spite of what his forefather was." She really said that.
When I first read this story, I assumed the "Reverend' was itchin' to have that old klansman exhumed for the DNA sample. Then I learned that it can be from a living relative. So that eminates revenge as a motive. So I'm scratching my head here, tryin' to understand just what the 'Rev' could possibly get out of confirming he is somehow the illegitimate offspring of the old racist. Because the 'Reverend' doesn't do ANYTHING unless there's something like money or publicity in it for him. Not nothin', not no way, not no how. Then it hit me like a paternity suit served by Gloria Allred - the 'Reverend' Al could sue the estate of Strom Thurmond for back child support. No tedious waiting for the courts to decide in favor of slavery reparations. Just sue the living relatives in the here and now, individually. And given the utterances of the dead reprobate's niece, a lawyer with all the skills of a 2 point GPA graduate from the Barney Fife School of Criminal Justice could win.
Not much of a compliment.
Maybe she meant it to be that way....? (heh heh)

Yikes. What an awful comment by the niece.
Back child-support? That's funny. I saw Al on O'Reilly tonight and he was pretty cool. He's changed for the good from his early activist days. I sure hope he turns this into something helpful. Thurmond's mistress, who was exposed after his death, is a fine lady who might be someone Sharpton could hook up with to make something good out of all this. I don't know what but maybe tossing the niece off the Cooper River Bridge would be a good start.

Wait. I'm not sure that was Thurmond's mistress but rather the daughter of his mistress. Yeah. That's the deal. She's black. And Thurmond saw to it that she had everything.

Al Sharpton seeking back-child-support (as opposed to black-child-support) from the estate of a dead segregationalist. That's rich.
Maybe that's a leap, but it's not a far one. About the only thing missing is nubile woman in a trash bag with racial epithets written on her torso in charcoal...
Nice side-by-side photo. Can you see the family resemblance?
The idea Al might be related to Strom goes a long way toward explaining Al's hair.
Cheers,

I think the whole thing is hilarious, but not as funny as Strom's black daughter.

I wonder if Al will sort of choke a little next time he uses the term, "Whitey". Or knowing Sharpton's prediliction to chuckling , he'll probably laugh. :) I hope so. It would go a long way to stop the racism stuff.

Actually, Al Sharpton is a very funny guy. Too bad he has made his way stirring up old shit. As for Thurmond, he did alot of good that you don't hear about after the whole segregation thing was over.

"There's a WHAT in the family woodpile!?" -- Strom Thurmond

He did, David. Credit to the guy for coming full circle from inculcated beliefs from childhood to recognition that those beliefs were wrong.
