Driver Whose Face Was Crushed by Tossed Turkey Offers Second Chance to Teen

NEW YORK (AP) - A teen who severely injured a woman by tossing a 20-pound turkey through her car windshield was sentenced to six months in jail after his victim requested a light sentence.

Ryan Cushing, 19, also received five years of probation Monday and was ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment and do community service.

Victoria Ruvolo underwent a 10-hour operation to repair her crushed face and spent a month in the hospital following the incident last November. She said she requested a light sentence for Cushing because she wanted to give him a second chance.

"What would vengeance do?" Ruvolo said on NBC's "Today" show. "God gave me a second chance and I'm just passing it on."

The teen pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree assault in August. If convicted of first-degree assault at trial, Cushing could have been sentenced to up to 25 years.

Cushing was riding in a car with other teens when the turkey was tossed. Five other teenagers had previously pleaded guilty to various charges, including credit card theft for a spending spree that included the turkey.

When Cushing pleaded guilty in August, Ruvolo, 44, had hugged him in a tearful embrace in the courtroom. But at the sentencing, Ruvolo said she hadn't forgiven the teen, "in the sense that I have not absolved you."

"I truly hope that by demonstrating compassion and leniency, I have encouraged you to seek an honorable life," Ruvolo said in court.

Cushing read a statement saying her kindness "has already made a positive change in my life."

Well, at least she didn't spout off a bunch of religious hoo-ha about how God told her to do it. Who knows - she may have done this kid the best favor he'll ever get in his life. The only way that will work is if he realizes it.

What I want to know is why, if you steal a credit card, you go buy a turkey?

Steel,

Why don't you set up a Random Comment section at the top of your blog for talking about anything that's on one's mind? I want to talk about that dam in Massachusetts that kept appearing every three minutes as a FOX NEWS ALERT today. I don't know if it burst or not....going to find out; but I was thinking of how utterly ghoulish it was for FOX to be watching this thing minute by minute. They even had a double screen going on while they were interviewing people - not about the dam. I hope the dam held. ha ha... What a disappointment for FOX.

That will have to wait till the switch over.

Bill Quick has that option.

Are we switching, Steel?..What we switching to?

I'm curious to the other "various charges" as well.

Random comment might work better than the chat room, Steel, considering i spend a bunch of time there, and see very few.

I'm close to moving this blog to my own domain.

The Steel Deal DOT COM.

Things will improve vastly then.
