Google’s income shifting - involving strategies known to lawyers as the “Double Irish” and the “Dutch Sandwich” - helped reduce its overseas tax rate to 2.4 percent, the lowest of the top five U.S. technology companies by market capitalization, according to regulatory filings in six countries.
“It’s remarkable that Google’s effective rate is that low,” said Martin A. Sullivan, a tax economist who formerly worked for the U.S. Treasury Department. “We know this company operates throughout the world mostly in high-tax countries where the average corporate rate is well over 20 percent.”
Here's the deal - it is legal, everybody does it and it is entirely avoidable. The 'flat tax' will not only solve this, increase our revenues, disambiguate the tax code - it will also lower everyone's taxes across the board. It would give a shot of pure adrenalin to our economy, make doing business easier, truly stimulate growth and encourage investments in our nation hitherto unseen. If the GOP gains control of Congress they need to do three things and three things only. Scrap the current tax code and institute a flat tax. Secure the borders. Enact term limits. That is it and that is all. Everything else will take care of itself in very short order.
Do it, damn it!
