TIPTON, Iowa - Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal health care proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.

"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care," he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."

He noted, for example, that women would be required to have regular mammograms in an effort to find and treat "the first trace of problem." Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, announced earlier this year that her breast cancer had returned and spread.

Edwards said his mandatory health care plan would cover preventive, chronic and long-term health care. The plan would include mental health care as well as dental and vision coverage for all Americans.

"The whole idea is a continuum of care, basically from birth to death," he said.

The former North Carolina senator said all presidential candidates talking about health care "ought to be asked one question: Does your plan cover every single American?" Link

   While there's very little chance that Edwards will be calling the shots in a year and half, this call for total and mandatory compliance with womb to tomb healthcare will likely resonate with the Left. I daresay, resounding so. I expect his opponents to pick up this mantra immediately. And the fact that alarm bells are not going off only fortifies my prediction. You would expect those who've screamed relentlessly about government intrusion in the form of surveillance and eavesdropping to be hysterical about this notion.

   I don't think Edwards is all that bright and I don't credit him with intializing this forced healthcare concept, much more likely it was the far left fringes from which he gains what little support he has, that put it in his mind and injected it into his campaign rhetoric. That in itself should raise alarm. This is one of those socialisic concepts, like mandatory State-run daycare, which sounds almost logical and seems like a perfectly good idea. It is not, it is a most dangerous direction to proceed and it has been tried before.

   Biotechnology has recently completed mapping the entire human genome, and is fast identifying all genes which cause illness OR cause an inclination for illness. DNA samples are routinely taken in hospitals, doctor's offices, clinics, schools, insurance examinations and prisons. That information is then put into a data base from which it will never ever leave. Now, there've been laws passed to 'protect' that information and the privacy of all the individulas from which it was collected. Do YOU have any faith whatsoever that your government is even remotely capable of either? Just think back on all the reports of missing FBI, military, DEA, IRS, laptops. It doesn't take any effort to recall the millions and millions of stolen identities we hear about all the time. It's safe to say there's is no way to secure any information in this day and age with degree of absolute certainty.

   And since this proposal will require enforcement, that begs government participation, which then means the government has possession, ergo, ownership, of this data. Which means YOU DON'T. And furthermore, you will lose all rights to detemine how this data is used. Now are you starting to get the picture? And I not being the least bit over-dramatic, when I say, once this information becomes the domain of government, the government will use it to ITS advantage, NOT the individual's. THAT is the ultimate goal of social engineering - selective genetic deteminism conducted for the 'good' of all by government. Euphemistically known as eugenics. Better know as The Final Solution as conducted by Nazi Germany in World War II. We know how that turned out, don't we?

   But those in favor of a strong central State control over every aspect of daily life seek exactly that. They will will use any ruse or chicanery to obtain that end. First the call goes out for healthcare for all! Then, once that is has acceptable to a majority, the call will be madatory healthcare for all! Then it will be madatory preventive healthcare for all!. Followed by some must sacrifice more so that others will prosper. The final stage is some must die so that others may live. Sound familiar? It should, as these statements have, in form or another, all been spoken publicly by every Democratic candidate. You hear those the Left cry FASCIST often. They use that term to describe Bush & Co and neocons and almost anyone on the Right or who dares to hold dissenting views. The Nazis are held up as the worst fascism has to offer. May I remind you that they called themselves - social democrats.

   And in the grand schemes of things, it does not matter one whit whether an all powerful centralized government which controls every aspect of your life is fascist, socialist or 'Democrat', you are still just as screwed.

How many other candidates (he's not mine but was in early 2004)can you name that WERE NOT BORN WITH A SILVER SPOON IN THEIR MOUTH...OR WHEREeVER.

If you can't see the forrest for the trees: The more PREVENTITIVE CARE you get in your lifetime, the healthy life you will lead.

Making it mandatory in conjunction with insurance is a bit much; however.
if you have an HMO you are encouraged to find a MEMBER DOCTOR , get
an exam...etc.

Preventitive Care needs to be more cheaply and easily availabe.

Free health care is a great idea but somebody has to pay
