Dames at Sea
European nations that ban abortion are under naval assault by Women on Waves. The group sail a ship into local waters to dispense RU486.
AMSTERDAM - The Dutch government has lifted restrictions that have kept an "abortion ship" from international waters for three years.
The group Women on Waves told The Times of London that under its new Dutch license, the group can hand out "abortion pills" to women up to seven weeks pregnant after taking women from countries that ban abortion to international waters.
The group plans to target the three EU countries - Ireland, Poland and Malta - that ban abortion and has reportedly received invitations from groups in Argentina and elsewhere in South America, the Times reported.
"We have just received the license and there are some restrictive conditions but, yes, we are going to prepare a new campaign, that is for sure," Rebecca Gomperts, the director of Women on Waves, told The Times. "It will take a little time but we are in touch with women's organizations in several different countries, so we are looking at the best option."
Women on Waves has been sidelined by Dutch restrictions since 2004. The rules were relaxed after the Labor Party was voted into the ruling coalition, The Times reported.
Wow, where to start. First of all, the Dutch have lagalized dope, including heroin, euthanasia, including state mandated killing of extremely disabled children, marriage between 3 or more people and yet they still ban abortion? I'd call that the height of hypocrisy, myself. And then there's *Women on Waves. It bills itself as a 'womens rights' organization, but a bit of research shows they are, in truth, feminazis. So far, their activities have been limited to dispensing RU 486, but imagine if they acquired a vessel larger than the small mid-ocean tug pictured. Like say ... a used troop carrier. Then they could perform actual abortions. At sea. Now I have no qualms about reasonable abortion and birth control, but it is my experience that the fringe elements would like nothing more than to be able to conduct post natal abortions and the Netherlands allows that practice to some extent, already. I see a convergence here. Abortion cruises and abortions handled like those gambling boats that go just offshore. That is a can of worms on many levels, not the least of which is national sovereignty and international border disputes. And speaking of a can of worms, would they give the aborted fetuses a burial at sea or use them for bait.
An aside. That musical, Dames at Sea was a parody of Busby Berkeley extravaganzas. And it stunk. But it has been in constant production since it was co-authored by one George Haimsohn, who just happens to have the shortest biography I've even seen at imdb. You might wonder how it is that I know anything about an insipid 40s musical parody and an obscure writer with only one project to have ever made it into production. Well, I'll tell ya. Back when I lived in New Yorlk City, I was still very much into recreational drugs. George Haimsohn was an old aging drag queen who lived just off University in the Village. He was also the guy I bought my LSD from. He'd started doing psychedelics in the early 60s and never slowed up. I'd sit in his apartment and listen to him tell stories about Hollywood in Golden Age and hear him laugh out often, loud and long about the fact that that one single dopey musical paid him a monthly royalty check which when coupled with the profits from a meager drug dealing enterprise, was more than enough to keep him ensconced in Manhattan and leave him enough left over to hit the 'meat market' a few times a week.
An other aside. I spent a decade on the high seas and crewed with quite a few women. Even a few female skippers. That tugboat is a breeze to operate and any competent woman driver could run it. Same with small to medium fishing boats. But I have never seen a woman who could run a crew bigger than 5 and a ship longer than 100'. Not only that, I never saw a woman working on deck that was remotely capable of the task at hand. The sea is indeed a cruel mistress and just like on land, you put too many women in the same place and there's gonna be trouble. You put a bunch of feminazis all tryin' to out 'man' each other at sea and you're in deep ... er ...water.
The Norwegians have it right. One of the most sacred and time honored of their many many shipboard superstitions is that women aboard ship will sink it faster'n torpedoes.

Question: Do the Dutch ban abortions?
I can understand them not wanting the hassle of a EU Free-For-All, but considering their rather open policies on everything else, I'm wondering if there is not more to this story.
"Feminazis"? I've never used that word, and it strikes me as odd that you would given the way you respect women. These women have come up with a way to help all women - not to herald power over men. Those are feminists. Can't say I have much good to say about them.

That they are engaged in a worthy effort is NOT the point.
As I stated, I did some research - these are, for the most part, 'man haters'.

Well. Okay, but it may be that the men they hate are the men who made verboten the right of women to seek help when they need it. ?
Not sure how helping women turns into man-hating.

As long as the feminazis sterilize the wire hanger first. :D

They should save up to buy the cruise ship from the TV show Loveboat.

Or rent the lower decks of the Rosie O'Donnell cruises.

Hey, I read last night that Rosie quit The View. I've never watched it and didn't turn on Fox & Friends like I usually do .... hmmm.
How can someone produce a show like Fox & Friends and then turn around and allow such a show as Hannity & Colmes?
Fox & Friends is delightful and funny and easy on the mind. They cover the news with little bullshit and keep everything light. It's morning.... don't torture the mind. Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade and ....dang, I forgot her name... E.D.Hill's replacement,... they're all so nice.
Then H & C. UGH. They picked Alan Colmes as the liberal and made sure they picked an ugly guy who looks as if he's not there and balanced him with a crotch-scratching, loud-mouthed jock who is TV's most repulsive bully. Good looking enough - to make Alan look even worse.
I wrote them an email last week about showing the Cho videos. Turns out all the channels that showed it got THE LARGEST deluge of hate-mail in history for that. Anyway, I threw in my email that figuring their audience for idiots is the kind of thing that brings trouble when Hannity says one thing one night and pretends he didn't say the next night after he hears the complaints.
Why am I ranting here on an abortion-ship post about FOX?

Combes actually has a fairly listenable radio show, or least he used to have.
I was forced to listen to him on Sundays when I was on the road.
The conservative stations used his show to achieve 'balance' on Sundays.
And Jim Hightower. (ACK!)
I think he must be tortured - having to defend the crap he does - nobody is that fuckin' stupid.

America could require women to go on a cruise to get an
abortion and stop in Mexico while they are out to fetch back
some body to mow my yard babysit my kids and clean my house.
I'm glad I don't live in Europe where they replace the
unwanted with a Muslem.
