Should I Give Up?

             I am almost to the point where I want to give up.

   It seems as though the assault on this nation is so relentless, so without reason and so blind, that I want to cash my chips in. I am beginning to think there's no winning in this war. And war is what this is.

   The Left has no love for the freedoms we used to cherish. I am convinced they would prefer another sort of reality. A world in which someone else takes responsibility for everything. Everything. Your life, your family, your entire existence. Just leave it to someone else. 'THEY' know better. 'WE' don't know anything. Life is just too complex for the common man to comprehend, much less live without THEIR guidance.

   After all, they have have the best of intentions - right? They only want to insure we all 'get along' and have 'peace'. All we have to do is turn our lives over to them and they will see to it that we are 'taken care of'.

   They will never give up making this happen, they will stop at nothing to do so and this goal is all they live for.

   Perhaps they are correct. 'Free thinking' has resulted in WHAT? This chaotic world, rife with destruction and death, is apparently all free thinking can accomplish.

   Maybe it would be better to have someone else in control of our lives.

   Someone to tell us the what, when, where, how and why we exist. If we just get onboard they will lead us to the 'Promised Land'.

   But there's this little voice inside of me that says I am best equipped to make my decisions. Silly little thing. I shouldn't listen.

   That same voice tells me to allow YOU to make your own choices. Silly little thing.

   There's a term that refers to the once incarcerated - 'institutionalized'. It means that once a man has become a prisoner, had his routine dictated, his day planned and regulated, he yearns for that discipline. Hence the high rate of recivitism in our penal system.

   Ask yourself this ... am I more able to make YOUR choices? I'll grant you that YOU may be better at making mine. Do YOU want that responsibilty?

   Maybe I'm just getting old, maybe I am worn out. Maybe I just don't have that 'fight' left in me.

   And maybe I'll do battle until I die to make damned sure we all make our own lives.

                                                   That is all.

You use no examples of leftists who fit your description. I think you are talking about what Rush Limbaugh or Bill Bennet or Bill O'Reilly or Mike Savage or Sean Hannity want you to think about 'the left'.

Are you talking about Hillary? Then tell me something she has done or said that helps to illustrate your point. But she is not even a member of the 'the left'. Be a little specific abou whoever you have a beef with. David Corn? Noam Chomsky? Howard Zinn? Naomi Klein? If you don't know any of these people then you don't know much about the left.

Steel...This/you are one of my favourite places in the blogosphere and you know that I lean a little to the left, but you are worrying me here! I am hoping that you are not saying that free thinking has resulted in this chaotic life, rife with destruction and death. I am hoping that you are not believing that this is the way the left leaning elements of this country are thinking. I know we are all in this community together and that we are all free to a degree not EVER seen before in this world of ours. We are the luckiest humans on this earth! Ask the people of the former USSR if they think communism works. Ask the people of Argentina if they think Military governments work. Even if in this country of ours we have different veiws on things, we've got to cherish this United States of America! Down with Dictatorships!

I think it's the freedom to express those thoughts that has you tired, and I don't think you're alone. I think the whole planet has freedom of speech fatigue. We've never had such copious amounts of speech coming at us with such speed. We are in overload trying to sort it all out. We hear this side and that side and usually in too short sound bites to get much out of either side.

We have an enemy made up of mystics who claim to hear the voice of God telling mindless humans if they kill they will get virgins. ?? And we're supposed to sort that chimera at the same time we have to deal with asinine politicians who are creating hate, on both sides, such as this country has never seen.

What would it do for you to shut down all incoming and head out camping in the wilds for a week? It would take anyone to the last day of that week to come back to earth..... to exploit that metaphor.

We are all tired.

Very good article. Man, I wish I could get into leftist philosophy. Life is soooooo much simpler for them. Every thing can be blame on the "religious right" and GW. They dont have to bother remembering that the dems have run this country (into the ground) for fifty years. American auto makers are failing because of corporate tax cuts and health care costs. Not because A: Unions force 37.00 and hour for the floor sweeper and B: Their product sucks. Strange that forgien automakers in the USA are flourishing under the same conditions. The levies failed because GW took some funds away a couple years ago. Not because it was a flawed system eons ago that has continued to deteriorate for generations. Face it, we are better off being told what to think/believe, from one side or the other rather than using common sense. Come on, which do you find easier to follow, Idol or C-span? Yeah let's all give up cause there is a really cool benefit to learn from history. When lefties take over, they sieze EVERYBODIES wealth, not ust the "big corps" and "intellectuals" like some of our incredibly smart actors are imprisoned and/or put to death. That'll shut 'em up.

I'm not as old as you are, but health problems have made my body work similarly to someone 20 years my senior.

Yeah, I get tired of blogging, too, but it's a mental thing, brought on by frustration and the feeling that "it's just not worth it."

Bill Quick came close to quitting, and the thing that saved him was going to a group blog.

I understand your fatigue, my man, and I certainly hope that you find a way to overcome it. I'd hate to see you go.

Life is not ALL that bad. Yes, things seem to be rather grim, but there is one thing you can do. Pray. Pray to the Lord our God that He will help you be at peace about these things and that He will give you the wisdom and spiritual strength to get you through it. Don't blame Him either. We got ourselves in this mess. He's here to help us through it. We forget that we have freewill and because of that we make alot of mistakes. I know that sounds pretty awful, but that is why Christ came to die on the cross for every human that has EVER been. So that we have that hope of a better existence. Look to Him for comfort and a peace that passes all understanding. There is no end to any wars or the rumors of wars now. There will be NO peace on Earth until Christ comes back. So get into the word and let God speak to you. He will show the way to having that peace of mind that you desire to have. God Bless.
